It serves to sync and as the audit log: sync_cursor, passed as since next time, returns only what is new. next_cursor is set only when more events are waiting right now (call again with since: next_cursor). Event types include group_created, member_joined, expense_added, expense_updated, payment_recorded, payment_confirmed; ignore types you do not know.
